Lesson Plan: Plant Tissues Biology
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the structure and function of different tissues found in plants.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- state that a tissue is a group of specialized cells that carry out a particular function,
- distinguish between simple plant tissues (parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma) and complex plant tissues (xylem and phloem),
- describe the structure and function of parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma tissues,
- describe the structure and function of the phloem and xylem tissues.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the fact that plant cells are the basic functional units of plants,
- the fact that plants require the transport of water to survive.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- details of transpiration or translocation,
- the transverse structure of the stem.
