Lesson Plan: Linear Equations with Rational Numbers Mathematics • 7th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to solve linear equations with a fraction solution, a decimal solution, or coefficients.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- solve linear equations with fraction solutions,
- solve linear equations with decimal solutions,
- solve linear equations where one side is a simple algebraic fraction,
- solve linear equations with fraction or decimal solutions and brackets,
- solve more complex problems, including writing and solving a linear equation for a geometric problem or a word problem taken from a real-world context.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- one-step and two-step equations,
- linear equations with the variable, constants, and brackets on both sides.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- linear equations in two variables.
