Lesson Plan: Two-Slit Interference Physics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the positions of points of maximum and minimum intensity in interference patterns generated by double slits.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use the formula to calculate angle, wavelength, slit spacing, and order number in two-slit interference patterns,
- use the formula to calculate distances between fringes in two-slit interference patterns,
- compare calculated distances between fringes using and using trigonometry.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- coherent waves,
- constructive and destructive interference.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- single-slit diffraction patterns,
- -slit interference,
- relative intensity at arbitrary angles.
