This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find 1 or 10 more or less than a number in numbers up to 100.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- find 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, and 10 less than a given number using knowledge of the hundred chart,
- recognize that addition is used to find 1 and 10 more and subtraction is used to find 1 and 10 less,
- identify an unknown number based on a description of 1 or 10 more or less.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- finding 1 more and 1 less than a given number,
- counting forward and backward within 100.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- numbers greater than 100,
- adding or subtracting tens and ones to or from a given number,
- adding or subtracting more than 1,
- adding or subtracting more than one group of ten.
