Lesson Plan: Sets and Venn Diagrams Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to represent sets using a Venn diagram.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- represent the concepts of a typical set, intersecting sets, subsets, and disjoint sets using Venn diagrams,
- write sets based on what a Venn diagram shows.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- using the listing method and the description method to express sets,
- Venn diagrams as a way of sorting numbers and objects.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the terms typical set, intersecting sets, subsets, and disjoint sets,
- intersections or unions of sets with the notation or ,
- subsets of sets with the notation or ,
- universal or null sets,
- the sets , , , and ,
- negative numbers, fractions, or decimals.
