Lesson Plan: Plant Tropisms Biology
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to define the term ‘tropism’ and describe examples of common tropisms found in plants.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- state the meaning of the term tropism as a response by a plant to a stimulus,
- describe the importance of phototropism, hydrotropism, and geotropism for a plant,
- compare the terms negative and positive when related to tropisms,
- outline simple experiments to investigate hydrotropism, phototropism, and geotropism.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- plants as living organisms.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- details of plant hormones other than auxins.
