Lesson Plan: Bar Graphs with Nonunit Scales
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to draw bar graphs with nonunit scales and read bar graphs to solve one- and two-step comparison, sum, and difference problems.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- draw bar graphs and select appropriate scales to display the data,
- record data on bar graphs with nonunit scales,
- solve comparison, sum, and difference problems with data in bar graphs.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- drawing simple bar graphs,
- adding and subtracting whole numbers up to 1,000,
- reading bar graphs with unit scales.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- double bar graphs,
- line graphs,
- histograms.
