Lesson Plan: Parallel Lines and Transversals: Other Relationships Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to apply the angle relationships between a pair of parallel lines and a transversal to establish and use other relationships between parallel lines and transversals.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- establish and use the following:
- if a line is perpendicular to a line , then it is perpendicular to any other line parallel to ,
- if two lines are both perpendicular to a third line, then they are parallel,
- if two lines are both parallel to a third line, then they are parallel,
- recognize that if a set of parallel lines divides a transversal into segments of equal lengths, then that set divides any other transversal into segments of equal lengths.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- angle relationships between a pair of parallel lines and a transversal.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- similar shapes, particularly the triangle,
- the triangle midsegment theorem.
