Lesson Plan: Comparing Money: GBP
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to compare two amounts of money.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- compare amounts in pence shown with coins,
- compare amounts in pounds shown with coins and notes,
- compare amounts in pounds and pence shown with coins and notes.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- recognizing coins and notes used in the UK and identifying their monetary values,
- counting in 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, and 20s to find the total number of pence within 100,
- counting in 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, and 20s to find the total number of pounds within 100,
- counting a group of coins and notes to find a total amount of money.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- comparing written amounts of money,
- decimal notation for money,
- total amounts of pounds or pence exceeding 100.
