Find the perimeter of the figure.

The perimeter is the distance all the way around the figure. We find the perimeter by adding all the side lengths together: 23 centimeters plus 20 centimeters plus 16 centimeters plus 11 centimeters. Adding all of these together, in the units place, three plus zero plus six plus one equals 10. Write down your zero, carry your one.

Then, we move on and add our tens place: one plus two plus two plus one plus one equals seven. We’re working with centimeters. So we also bring down our units.

The perimeter, the distance all the way around this trapezoid, is 70 centimeters.
