418 multiplied by 46 equals what?

We’re using long multiplication to find the answer. First, we’re going to multiply 418 by six. Eight times six is 48. One times six is six, plus the four we exchanged makes 10. Four sixes are 24, plus the one we exchanged gives us 25.

Next, we’re going to multiply 418 by 40. Multiplying by 40 in this way is the same as multiplying by 10 and then by four. When we multiply by 10, the numbers shift one place to the left. First, we need to multiply eight by four, which is 32. Next, we need to multiply one by four, which gives us four, plus the three we exchanged is seven. Finally, four times four is 16.

Now we can add these two totals together to tell us 418 multiplied by 46. Eight plus zero is eight. Zero plus two is two. Five plus seven is 12. Two plus six plus the one we exchanged makes nine. And there’s nothing to add to the one so that stays the same. 418 multiplied by 46 is 19228.
