36 plus 24 equals what?

Both of these numbers have two digits: a tens digit and a ones digit. 36 has three tens and six ones and 24 has two tens and four ones. You may have noticed that six and four are a pair of numbers that make 10. If we add the four from 24 to the six from 36, we get 10. We can exchange this for a tens rod. Now, we have four tens plus two tens. Now, if we add together our four tens on our two tens, we will have six tens altogether. Six tens are 60. 36 plus 24 equals 60.

First, we added the six and four to make 10. 30 and 20 is 50. 50 plus 10 equals 60. 36 plus 24 equals 60.
