Circle the decimal that is closest in value to 63 over 400. The options are 0.1, 0.15, 0.16, and 0.02.

So if we put 63 over 400 into our calculator, we get an answer of 0.1575. So with this as the decimal, we can instantly rule out two of our values for being the closest to this decimal. And we can rule out 0.1 and 0.02 because we can see that 0.1575 is gonna be between 0.15 and 0.16. So 0.1 and 0.02 are too small and will be further away from the value.

Well now, there are a couple of methods we’re gonna use to show which one is going to be the closest value. The first method we’re gonna do is we’re showing the difference between 0.1575 and 0.15 and 0.16. So first of all, we’re gonna do 0.1575 minus 0.15. And that’s because 0.1575 is greater than 0.15. And when we do this, we get 0.0075.

So next, we’re gonna do 0.16 minus 0.1575. And that’s because 0.16 is greater. And when we do this, we get the answer is 0.0025. So therefore, we can say that as 0.0025 is less than 0.0075, then 0.16 must be closer in value to 63 over 400 than 0.15. And we could also show this on a number line where we can see that 0.1575 is closer to 0.16 than it is to 0.15. So therefore, we could say that the correct answer is definitely the third one along, 0.16.
