You have four blue sweaters and three red ones. How many sweaters do you have?

We can see from the question and the picture that there are four blue sweaters. And there are three red sweaters. This bar represents four blue sweaters. And this bar represents the three red ones. We need to work out how many sweaters there are altogether.

So we know there’re four sweaters which are blue. So we can start counting at number four on our number line. And we need to count forward three more because there are three red sweaters, five, six, seven. Four and three more makes seven.

If you have four blue sweaters and three red ones, you have seven sweaters.
