The table shows the average time taken to do various chores. Determine the range of the data.

The table shows us the chores of vacuuming, sweeping, washing dishes, cooking meals, cleaning bathrooms, doing laundry, and taking out the trash. If we look at the value of 28 under cooking meals, that means that an average length of time of 28 minutes was spent cooking meals. Let’s recall that the range gives an indication of how spread out the data is. We calculate the range by finding the largest data value subtract the smallest data value. We don’t need to put the data values in order. We just need to identify that the largest value in this table is 68 and the smallest value is 10. Calculating 68 minus 10 will give us an answer of 58. And so the range of this data is 58 minutes.
