Layla completes one-and-a-half somersaults in a dive. How many degrees does Layla turn through in her dive?

We know that this is Layla’s start position. Then, Layla turns and she makes a series of turns until she’s facing the same way as she started. So Layla has completed one somersault. This was her start position and she made a series of turns until she was facing the same way as she started. So Layla has made a complete somersault or a full circle.

And we know that a complete circle is 360 degrees. Then, Layla made a half somersault. She’s started off facing upwards. Then, she made two turns until she was facing downwards. So Layla’s half-somersault is the same as turning half a circle or 180 degrees.

So to find out how many degrees Layla has turned through in her dive, we need to add together 360 and 180, which is one-and-a-half somersaults. Zero and zero give us a total of zero. Six and eight is 14. Three plus one plus the one we exchanged is a total of five.

Altogether, Layla turned through 540 degrees in her dive.
