We have two options for rounding. We’ll round 34183 to either 30000 or 40000. We can think about rounding by thinking which value is this number closest to on a number line.
Is 34183 closer to 30000 or 40000 on this number line? Halfway between 30000 and 40000 is 35000. 34183 is less than halfway. It is closer to 30000 than it is to 40000 and that means we round 34183 to 30000.
