Video Transcript

Fill in the blank. Seven take away what equals two.

We can use a bar model to help us think about how to answer this question. We know there are seven to begin with and we know there are two left at the end. We have to work out what we take away from seven to leave us with two.

We can use a number line to help us work out the answer. We know we have to start on number seven and end on number two. How many spaces do we have to count back from number seven to get to number two on the number line? One, two, three, four, five. So if we start at seven and count back or take away five, we finish on number two.

Seven take away five equals two. The missing number is five.
