Elizabeth puts eight toys in her bucket. Then, she adds two more. How many does she have now?

We know there are eight toys in the bucket. And then Elizabeth added two more. So how many toys does she have now? We could use a number line to help us find the answer. We can circle number eight because that’s how many toys there are in Elizabeth’s bucket. She added two more. So we need to count forward two places on the number line: one, two. Eight plus two makes 10. Elizabeth has 10 toys in her toy box now.
