Jennifer has two bags of marbles. The number in Bag B is less than the number in Bag A. How many marbles could be in Bag B?

Bag A contains five marbles. We can use a number line to help us work out the answer. I’ve highlighted number five because there are five marbles in Bag A. Anything to the left of number five on the number line is less than five. So there could be four marbles in Bag B or three marbles or two. There could just be one marble in the bag or there could be none.

So there could be four, three, two, one, or no marbles in Bag B because all of these numbers are less than five.
