David and Benjamin drove 94 miles to Westchester. If it took them 1.8 hours to get there, determine, to the nearest integer, the average speed at which they were driving. Give your answer in miles per hour.

In this question, we’re asked to calculate the average speed of the entire journey. We know that we can calculate this by dividing the total distance by the total time. The total distance traveled by David and Benjamin was 94 miles. We are told that it took them 1.8 hours to get to their destination. So the total time is 1.8 hours. The average speed in miles per hour is therefore equal to 94 divided by 1.8. Typing this into our calculator gives us 52.2 recurring.

We are asked to give our answer to the nearest integer. And since the first digit after the decimal point is a two, we round down. The average speed at which David and Benjamin were driving to the nearest integer is 52 miles per hour.
