Convert 22 percent to a decimal.

To start this question, let’s recall what is meant by percent. It means out of 100. So 22 percent just means 22 out of 100. We can write this as a fraction; it’s 22 over 100. And now we need to convert this into a decimal.

Remember that the horizontal line in a fraction means divide. So this fraction literally means 22 divided by 100. To divide a number by 100, we can keep the decimal point fixed and move each of the digits two places to the right. This gives the decimal 0.22. As a decimal then, 22 percent is equivalent to 0.22.
