We can use a place value chart to help us think about the value of each of the number’s digits. We have two eights in this number, the first one is the tens. The eight is worth eight 10s. Eight 10s or 80, and we write the word eighty like this.
This three digit is worth three ones, and we can write three ones in words using the number three. Let’s look at the next two digits. This eight is worth eight-tenths, and this digit is worth three hundredths. Altogether there are eighty-three hundredths. And, we can write that in the same way as eighty-three and we just need to write hundredths on the end. So, we have eighty-three and eighty-three hundredths.
