Determine the ratio between the quantities 24 decimeters, 280 centimeters, 2.2 meters in the simplest form.
In order to try and simplify a ratio, we firstly need to ensure that our units are the same. In this question, we have decimeters, centimeters, and meters. We recall that one meter is equal to 10 decimeters. One decimeter is equal to 10 centimeters. And one meter is equal to 100 centimeters. In this question, we will convert all our values into decimeters.
To convert from meters to decimeters, we need to multiply our value by 10. This means that 2.2 meters is equal to 22 decimeters. To convert from centimeters to decimeters, we divide by 10. 280 divided by 10 is 28. So 280 centimeters is the same as 28 decimeters. As our units are now the same, we can rewrite the ratio as 24 to 28 to 22. All of these values are even, so they are divisible by two.
The ratio written in its simplest form is 12: 14 : 11.
