What kind of transformation has been applied?

We have two different figures: one called image and one called original. The original is what you start with. And the image is what you get after a transformation has been applied. Our original is a square that’s been divided into triangles.

What has happened to the original to produce the image? Imagine if someone put their finger in the middle of the square and turned it to the right. Now we’ve turned it about 45 degrees. It doesn’t look like the image yet.

By turning it another 45 degrees, all the sudden, we have the same figure. And in translation vocabulary, this kind of turn is called a rotation. A rotation is the type of transformation that has been applied here. The original was turned around a point.
