A machine pours 250 millilitres of juice every four seconds. How many litres of juice does the machine pour every minute?

We know that the machine produces 250 millilitres of juice every four seconds. We have to work out how many litres of juice the machine produces in one minute. We know there are 60 seconds in one minute. So we can think about the minute as 60 seconds. This makes it easier to work with the numbers.

The first thing we need to calculate is how much larger 60 is than four. How can we get from four seconds to 60 seconds? Half of 60 is 30, and half of 30 is 15. So 60 divided by four is 15. So we can multiply four by 15 to reach 60. So we need to multiply 250 millilitres by 15 as well.

250 multiplied by 10 is 2500 millilitres. 250 multiplied by five equals 1250 millilitres. To all together, we have 3750 millilitres. We’re asked to give the answer in litres. To help us convert the millilitres to litres, we need to remember that there are 1000 millilitres in one litre.

The three in 3750 is the thousands. So we know there are three thousands. 3000 millilitres is equal to three litres. So the machine pours 3.75 litres of juice every minute. We found the amount of juice poured in one minute by multiplying the amount in four seconds by 15. Once we had the amount in millilitres, we converted the answer to litres. The machine pours 3.75 litres of juice every minute.
