2331 divided by 37.

We’re going to use long division to help us calculate 2331 divided by 37. There are no 37s in two or in 23. So we need to move to the third digit and calculate how many 37s there are in 233. To help work this out, we could round 37 to 40. Six 40s are 240. 40 is three more than 37. So we need to adjust six lots of three which is 18 and then subtract the 18 from 240.

240 take away 10 is 230 and 230 take away eight is 222. So 37 multiplied by six is 222. So there are six 37s in 233. 37 times six is 222 which we need to subtract from 233. This gives us a remainder of 11. There are no 37s in 11. So we can bring down the one to make 111. Now, we need to calculate how many 37s there are in 111.

Two 37s make 74. And double that or four times 37 is 148, which is too much. Let’s try 37 times three. We know that two lots of 37 is 74. So if we add another 37, that will give us three lots of 37. 70 plus 30 is 100. Four plus seven is 11. 100 plus 11 is 111. So 37 multiplied by three is 111. So we can write the three. Three 37s are 111, which gives us a remainder of zero.

2331 divided by 37 is 63.
