In the United States, about 1.64 million people speak French as their primary language. Round this number to the nearest million.
1.64 million people rounded to the nearest million. We only have two choices. We’re either going to round 1.64 million to one million or to two million. 1.5 million would fall exactly in the middle. And 1.64 million would be a little bit larger than half.
When something is larger than half, we round up. 1.64 million is closer to two million than it is one million. So we round up. 1.64 million to the nearest million is two million.
