Jacob has a new TV set with a size of 24 inches. Find the size in centimeters. Hint: 12 inches is approximately 30 centimeters.

So let’s imagine we have Jacob’s TV set. We’re told it’s 24 inches. And as for TV sets, that’s usually the length of the diagonal, we need to find the equivalent value in centimeters. We’re given the conversion here that 12 inches is approximately 30 centimeters. In this case, however, we don’t have 12 inches. We have 24 inches. So we need to establish how we go from 12 to 24 by multiplying or dividing.

Well, if we double 12 or multiply it by two, we’ll get to 24. Therefore, we have to do the same on the other side with our value of 30 centimeters. 30 multiplied by two gives us 60 centimeters. And that would be our answer for 12 inches.

In this question, we were given the hint of a conversion between 12 inches and 30 centimeters. Usually, in exam questions, we’ll need to recall a conversion. For example, one inch is 2.5 centimeters. In this case, we would have multiplied both sides of the conversion one inch equals 2.5 centimeters by 24, which would also have given us an answer of 60 centimeters.
