43 plus 38 equals what?

We’re adding together two two-digit numbers. 43 has four tens which is worth 40 and three ones. 38 has three tens which is 30 and eight ones. Let’s start by adding together the ones. Eight plus three equals 11. Now, we can add the tens. Four tens and three tens make seven tens which is 70. And 70 plus 11 makes 81.

First, we added the ones. Eight plus three is 11. Next, we added the tens. 40 and 30 equals 70. Then, we added the two totals together to give us our answer of 81.

43 plus 38 equals 81.
