Calculate seven and seventeen hundredths minus six and twenty-three hundredths.

The key to solving this problem is to make sure we line up the decimals, seven and seventeen hundredths minus six and twenty-three hundredths. The hundredths places are lined up. The tenths places are lined up. And the ones places are lined up. So we’re ready to subtract.

Starting all the way on the right, seven minus three equals four. One minus two, well we can’t solve one minus two. We need to borrow from the ones place. If we take away one of the ones, we can turn our tenths place into eleven tenths. And then we can say 11 minus two equals nine.

Bring down our decimal. Make sure it stays in line. Six minus six equals zero. Seven and seventeen hundredths minus six and twenty-three hundredths equals zero and ninety-four hundredths.
