Abdul goes to the zoo. He finds out the mass of some animals. Cheetah, 58 kilograms. Tiger, 94 kilograms. Lion, 94 kilograms. Compare the mass of the animals. Write less than or greater than or equal to in each box. Cheetah’s mass is less than, greater than, or equal to the tiger’s mass. The tiger’s mass is less than, greater than, or equal to the lion’s mass.

First, we have to compare the mass of the cheetah and the tiger. The cheetah weighs 58 kilograms and the tiger weighs 94 kilograms. Which of the three symbols should we place between the two numbers 58 and 94? Less than, greater than, or equal to? 58 is less than 94. So we can write the symbol less than. Now, we need to compare the mass of the tiger and the lion. We know the tiger weighs 94 kilograms and the lion weighs 94 kilograms. They both weigh the same. So the tiger’s mass is equal to the lion’s mass. 94 is equal to 94.

The two missing symbols are less than and equal to. The cheetah’s mass is less than the tiger’s mass and the tiger’s mass is equal to the lion’s mass.
