Paul’s monthly income during the period from 2016 to 2017 is twice his monthly income during the period from 2010 to 2011. If Paul’s income during the period from 2016 to 2017 is 250 dollars and his income during the period from 2010 to 2011 is 𝑥 dollars, which of the following equations is true? The options are A) two 𝑥 equals 250, B) 250𝑥 equals two, C) 𝑥 divided by two equals 250, or D) 𝑥 plus 250 equals two.

So in this question, there’s some key information. The first bit of information we’re gonna look at is the last bit. And that is, we’re told that the income during the period from 2010 to 2011 is 𝑥 dollars. Well, if we’ve got that the income during the period from 2010 to 2011 is 𝑥 dollars, the first bit of information will help us to see what it’s going to be between 2016 to 2017 in terms of 𝑥.

Because we’re told that Paul’s monthly income during the period from 2016 to 2017 is twice his monthly income during the period from 2010 to 2011, so therefore we know it’s gonna to be two multiplied by 𝑥 because that’s twice the income from 2010 to 2011 which was 𝑥. And this is gonna be equal to two 𝑥. And that’s because when we’re dealing with algebra, we don’t need the multiplying sign in between because it’s just written as two 𝑥. And this means two multiplied by 𝑥.

Okay, great, so now what can we do? Well, now, we can look at our final bit of information. And the final bit of information is that Paul’s income during the period from 2016 to 2017 is 250 dollars. So therefore, we can say that two 𝑥 is gonna be equal to 250. And that’s because two 𝑥 is the income from 2016 to 2017. And we’re also told that this income is 250 dollars.

So therefore, we can say that equation A is the correct equation and two 𝑥 is equal to 250.
