Five plus 32 equals what?

When we’re adding two numbers together, we can add them in any order. We could switch the numbers to say 32 plus five. We could add these numbers mentally by starting at number 32 in our heads and counting on five more: one, two, three, four, five. If we start at 32 and count forward five, the number we land on is number 37. 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37. 32 plus five equals 37.

So five plus 32 also equals 37. We reversed the order of the numbers, started at 32, and we counted on five. Five plus 32 equals 37.
