Round 1627187 to the nearest ten.

The first step is to figure out which digit is in the tens place. The tens place is to the left of the units place. In this case, it would be the eight. In order to round to the nearest 10, we’ll need to look at the digit to the right of the tens place, in the units place. In our case, we have a seven here.

For rounding, we have two cases. We have the case that the value to the right of the digit you’re rounding is less than or equal to four. In that case, you round down. The second case is when the digit to the right of the number you’re rounding is greater than or equal to five. In that case, you would round up.

We’re dealing with the seven. Seven is greater than or equal to five. We need to follow the second case and round up. In that case, the eight rounds up to nine. Everything to the right of the tens place becomes a zero and everything to the left of the tens place stays exactly the same.

By rounding to the nearest 10, our new value is 1627190.
