What number is 𝑡? Give your answer as a mixed number in its simplest form.

First, we want to know where is zero is on our number line. We see that 𝑡 falls below zero. So we know that it will be a negative value. 𝑡 is past negative one and negative two. The space between negative two and negative three is what we want to look at closely.

The space between negative two and negative three is divided into three parts. And the 𝑡 passes the first two out of three. So we say 𝑡 is at negative two and two-thirds. It’s almost to negative three, but not quite. It’s two-thirds of the way there.

𝑡 equals negative two and two-thirds.
