A sample of 330 people was taken to study the level of education of members in a society. If the ratio of males to females in the sample is three to two, find the number of males in the sample.

So the ratio of males to females is three to two. And the sample had a total of 330 people. So we need to take 330 and multiply by the fraction of males. However, we only know the ratio of males to females. So we need to add three and two together to get five.

The portion that were males, use the three in the ratio and we’ll put that over our five. So the fraction that were females will be two out of five. So to find the number of males in the sample, we will take 330 and multiply by three-fifths, resulting in our final answer of 198 males.
