The absolute value of one plus the absolute value of negative five is equal to blank.
We recall that the absolute value or modulus of a number is the magnitude of a real number without regard to its sign. In basic terms, it is the distance between the number and zero. If we consider the number line shown, we can see that one is one away from zero. This means that the absolute value of one is one. Negative five is five away from zero. This means that the absolute value of negative five is five. One plus five is equal to six. This means that the absolute value of one plus the absolute value of negative five is six.
