Months of the Year

In this video, we’re going to learn how to name and order the months of the year. Every year that goes by is split up into 12 months. Because we want to name and order these months, we’re going to have to learn 12 different names. We can use one of these to help us. It’s a calendar. A calendar shows all 12 months of the year in order. Let’s open it up and see what the first month is.

The first month of the year is January. And after January comes February. February is the second month of the year. The third month of the year is March, then comes April, May, and then June. Let’s practice the first six months of the year. January, February, March, April, May, and June.

The seventh month is another month that begins with the letter J, July. After July comes August. The ninth month is September. October is the 10th month. November is the 11th month. And the last month of the year, which is the 12th month, is December.

Now, what do you think happens when we get to the very end of the year, the very last day of the very last month? We start a new year with the first day of the first month again. So, we go from December back to January. Let’s try saying all 12 months of a year then in order. And as we say each new month of the year, we’ll put a counter on the calendar. January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

A good way to help us remember the months of the year is to think about some of the special things that happen on these months. But we all have different special days, so it’ll be difficult to mention them all in this video. Do you know which month of the year you’re in today? Now, I don’t know who you are or what month of the year you’re watching this video in, but I want you to look through the months of the year and to find the month that you’re in at the moment. If you’re not sure, ask a friend or an adult.

Once you’ve found the month, I want you to count and to find out which number month of the year it is. Were you right? Now, use what you know of the months of the year to work out what the next month of the year is going to be. Now, do you think you could say all 12 months of the year really quickly without seeing the words on the screen? Do you wanna have a go? The only way to check whether we’ve learned something like this is to test ourselves. So, we might as well. Ready? Do you think you remembered them all? January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

Let’s put into practice what we’ve learned. Now, we’re going to answer some questions where we have to name and order the months of the year.

Write the next three months: August, _, _, _.

We’re given a month of the year here, August. And our question asks us to write the next three months, in other words, the three months that come after August. Now, although the month of August is at the start of our pattern here, it’s not the first month of the year. To help us make sure that we get the next three months in order, let’s start at the very beginning of the year. Then, when we get to August, we’ll know what comes next.

The 12 months of the year begin with January, then February, March, April, May, June, July, then August is the eighth month of the year. Now, let’s pay attention. We need to think of the next three months. What is the month after August? After August comes September, then comes October and November. The 12th month, and the last month of the year, is December, but we don’t need to know this to answer the question. The next three months that come after August are September, October, and November.

What is the 12th month of the year?

We know that every year is made up of 12 different months. Because this question is asking us for the 12th month of the year, it’s asking us what the last month of the year is. Let’s say the months of the year in order from first to 12th. January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December. The 12th month of the year, which is also the last month of the year, is December.

Which month comes right before August?

To answer this question, we need to know the order of the months of the year. We are asked, which month comes right before August? Now, when we learn the months of the year, we often say them in order. So, we might know that the month that comes after August is September, which is followed by October, November, and of course December. But our question asked us for the month that comes right before August.

To help us find the answer, rather than saying the months of the year backwards from August, which is not something that we usually do, let’s take a bit of a run-up. We’ll start with January, and we’ll go all the way through to August. And we’ll find out which month comes just before August. So, every year begins with January, then February, March, April, May, June, July, and then August. By listing the months of the year in order, we can see that the month that comes right before August is July.

So, what have we learned in this video? We have learned to name and order the months of the year.
