The diagram below shows an electric
circuit. How many resistors that have a
fixed value are there in the circuit? Is it (A) three resistors, (B) four
resistors, (C) one resistor, or (D) two resistors?
In this question, we’ve been given
a circuit diagram and we need to identify how many fixed-value resistors it
contains. As we can see, this circuit is
quite complicated and contains many different components. And we may not have seen some of
them before.
However, to answer this question,
the only thing we need to know is that the symbol of a resistor with a fixed value
looks like a zigzag. And that’s it. We’re not interested in the zigzags
that have arrows on top of them because these represent resistors with variable
resistance, or in other words resistors that can change value.
By looking at the circuit diagram
in the question, we can identify each of the different components. And we can also see that the zigzag
symbol appears only once without an arrow drawn on top of it.
So in conclusion, the circuit
diagram contains only one resistor with a fixed value. And the correct answer is option
(C).
