Sita has 50 raisins. She gives 23 to Ben. She gives 15 to Amy. How many raisins does Sita have left?

we know that Sita has 50 raisins to begin with. She gives 23 to Ben and 15 to Amy. We need to work out how many raisins Sita has left. Before we can work out how many raisins Sita has left, we need to work out how many raisins she’s given to her friends.

We know Sita gave 23 raisins to Ben and 15 raisins to Amy. We need to add 23 and 15. 23 and 15 are both two-digit numbers. They have a tens digit and a ones digit. We could add together the ones first. Three plus five is eight. Now we can add the tens. Two tens plus one ten makes three tens. 23 plus 15 equals 38. Now, we know that Sita gave away 38 of her raisins altogether.

To find out how many raisins she has left, we need to find the difference between 38 and 50. What can we add to 38 to take us to 50? If we add two to 38, that will take us to 40. Then, it’s an easy jump from 40 to 50. We just need to add 10. 38 add two makes 40. 40 add 10 makes 50. The total difference between 38 and 50 is 12. We counted forward 12 more. Sita has 12 raisins left.

She had 50 raisins and she gave 23 to Ben and 15 to Amy. 23 and 15 is 38. So we know that Sita gave away 38 raisins. The difference between 38 and 50 is 12. So Sita has 12 raisins left.
