Taking From
In this video, we will learn how to
count to find how many are left after some are taken away from a group of
objects.
Here are 10 bumble bees. If three bumble bees fly away, how
many are left? Let’s count. One, two, three, four, five, six,
seven. 10 take away three is seven. There were 10 bumble bees at the
start. Three flew away, and seven are
left. Let’s practice finding out how many
are left when we take away some objects from a group.
There were six children in the
class. Two of them left. Now, there are what children in the
class.
In this question, we’re being asked
to take away a number of children and find out how many are left. We know that there were six
children in the class to begin with. And we also know that two of the
children left. We have to work out how many
children there are in the class now. Let’s count. One, two, three, four. Six take away two is four. There were six children in the
class. Two of them left. Now, there are four children in the
class.
There are seven balloons. Three balloons are popped. How many are left?
We know there are seven balloons to
begin with. Then, three balloons are
popped. So we have to take these balloons
away. One, two, three. Now, we can see that there are four
balloons left. Seven take away three is four. If there are seven balloons and
three balloons are popped, there will be four balloons left.
What number is missing? Six take away four is what?
There are six green counters to
begin with. Four have been taken away by
placing a cross through them. How many are left? Let’s count. One, two. Six take away four is two.
What have we learned in this
video? We’ve learned how to count to find
how many are left after some objects are taken away from a group.
