Determine whether the quantity is in the following rates are proportional: 820 calories in five servings and 800 calories in four servings.

Let’s set up fractions to represent these proportions. 820 calories in five servings, and we want to know is that proportional to 800 calories in four servings.

I recognize that 800 divide by four equals 200. And that means there are 200 calories in every serving Next, we can divide 820 by five. And that equals 164.

The question is is 164 equal to 200. Of course not! And what that tells us is that these two values are not in proportion with one another. They are not proportional.
