Evaluate the value of the following: The absolute value of negative three plus three minus the absolute value of negative seven.
If we think about what absolute value means, we sometimes say that it’s the distance of a value from zero which is the magnitude of that value. The magnitude of negative three, its distance from zero, is three. The magnitude of negative seven, its distance from zero, is seven. And then from there, we bring the rest of the problem down. And we have an expression that says three plus three minus seven. Three plus three equals six. And six minus seven equals negative one which means the total value of this expression is negative one.
