Find the perimeter of the shaded
rectangle.
We know that perimeter is the
distance around. We need to find the distance around
this rectangle by counting unit lengths. We can see that the left width is
two. The width on the right is also
two. We need to find the length by
counting: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. The length at the bottom is 10. And that means the length at the
top is also 10.
Since the perimeter is the distance
all the way around, we add up the four distances we found. The perimeter equals two plus 10
plus two plus 10. Two plus 10 equals 12. Two plus 10 again equals 12. 12 plus 12 equals 24. The perimeter of the shaded
rectangle is 24.
