A field trip will run if at least 40 students want to go. Write an inequality to represent the situation, using 𝑠 to represent the number of students.
As we’re asked to write an inequality, we must use one of the four inequality symbols: less than, greater than, less than or equal to, or greater than or equal to.
In this question, we are told that we need at least 40 students to want to go on the field trip, where 𝑠 represents the number of students. As our question says at least, 40 must be the minimum value.
The correct inequality is therefore 𝑠 is greater than or equal to 40. If 𝑠 is equal to 40, 41, 42, and so on, then the field trip will run.
