Find the area of the parallelogram 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷, given that 𝐵𝐹 is equal to 6.69 centimeters.
So here we’ve labeled that 𝐵𝐹 is 6.69 centimeters. And in a parallelogram, this will be considered the height. And the formula for the area of a parallelogram is equal to the base times the height. So here we have a base of 10 centimeters and a height of 6.69 centimeters. So we need to take 10 centimeters and multiply by 6.69 centimeters. This means we have an area of 66.9 square centimeters.
So how is it that the area of a parallelogram has the exact same formula as the area of a rectangle? This is because if we would take this little triangle piece and would move it here, we would have then created a rectangle. So once again, the area of parallelogram 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 is 66.9 square centimeters.
