Here is part of the bus timetable from Riverdale to Mott Haven. How many minutes does it take the 10:31 bus from Riverdale to reach Mott Haven? Mr. Evans is at Fordham at 10:30. What is the earliest time he can reach Tremont on the bus?

The first part of the question asks us how many minutes it takes the 10:31 from Riverdale to reach Mott Haven. The column highlighted orange shows the 10:31 from Riverdale and the time it arrives in Mott Haven. This bus leaves Riverdale at 10:31 and arrives in Mott Haven at 11:17. So we’re asked to find out how many minutes it takes to get from Riverdale to Mott Haven.

If we add 29 minutes to 10:31, that will take us to 11:00. And if we add 17 minutes to 11 o’clock, that takes us to 11:17. Now we just need to add together these two differences: 29 minutes and 17 minutes. 29 and 10 is 39. 39 add seven makes 46. The 10:31 bus from Riverdale takes 46 minutes to reach Mott Haven.

Now we can answer the second part of the question. Mr. Evans is at Fordham at 10:30. What’s the earliest time he can reach Tremont on the bus?
