How many rectangles are there?
We’re shown a picture of a cat which has
been made from lots of different shapes. We have to count the number of
rectangles. What do we know about rectangles? We know that rectangles have four sides
and four corners. Is this a rectangle? Yes, it is. It has four sides and four corners. So, there’s one rectangle.
Are the cat’s legs made from
rectangles? No, these are triangles. These shapes only have three sides. Is the cat’s body a rectangle? Yes, it is. It has four sides and four corners. This is our second rectangle. And the cat’s face is a rectangle. It has four sides and four corners. We found three rectangles.
The cat’s eyes are made from circles. Its nose is a triangle. These shapes don’t have four sides;
they’re not rectangles either. There are three rectangles in the
picture.
