Using paperclips as units of measurement, how long is the zipper?

The first thing we’re going to need is a box of paperclips. We can use these paperclips as our unit of measure by lining them up next to our zipper. We can start at the left end of the zipper. And we’ll line up one paperclip. Then, we add a second paperclip lined up evenly with the first.

Now, we have two paperclips in line with our zipper. We add a third paperclip in our line. And we’re still not to the end of the zipper. So far we have three paperclips. Once we put that fourth paperclip in, we’re now at the end of the zipper.

The measure of the zipper is one, two, three, four paperclips. This zipper is four paperclips long.
